About 792 women have dumped the main opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Jigawa State.
The defectors were received by the wife of the governor, Amina Umar Namadi, in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area.
She said the development reflected the good leadership of the present administration under Governor Umar Namadi and its commitment to improving the lives of citizens, especially women and youth.
Mrs Namadi congratulated the women and assured them that the APC’s doors remain open to all who wish to join the movement for the state’s development.
Also speaking at the event, the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim, reaffirmed the present administration’s commitment to improving the lives of ordinary citizens.
He noted that since its inception, the state government has introduced a series of programmes and policies for the development of the state.
According to him, “the present administration has excelled among his counterparts in delivering the dividends of democracy to its citizens.”
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Amina Waina said the women shifted their loyalty to the present administration due to its commitment to supporting women.
They pledged to continue mobilising women to support the present administration in the forthcoming 2027 general election.
