Marc Marquez delivered a stunning performance to win the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday at the Balaton Park Circuit.

He increased his MotoGP championship lead to a commanding 175 points by winning the first Hungarian Grand Prix in 33 years to secure his seventh straight sprint and main race double.

Reigning champion Jorge Martin came fourth – his best finish since his return from injuries.

KTM’s Pedro Acosta, and Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi joined Marquez on the podium with second, and third place finishes respectively.

Marquez lost the lead on lap one to drop out of the podium positions, but his tyre strategy proved decisive.

Having clinched his 13th sprint victory of the season on Saturday, Marquez had another good launch to lead into turn one.

But Bezzecchi took the lead on the next turn, as Marquez made contact with the Aprilia and lost speed to drop to fourth.

Marquez opened up on the clash with Bezzecchi on the grid.

He said: “Luckily, for both of us, I was able to save the crash and he just continued on his way. But from that point the race changed a bit.

“When I saw that the soft rear tyres started to drop, I was with the medium, I started to attack. I had a super nice rhythm. I was flowing on the track.

Bezzecchi admitted his team’s strategy did not pay off.

He said: “I needed the extra grip in braking so I risked it with the soft. But maybe it was better [to use] the medium.”

Honda’s Luca Marini rounded off a strong weekend for the factory team with fifth place ahead of Morbidelli, who was unable to stick with the pace at the front.

Behind KTM riders Brad Binder and Pol Espargaro came Francesco Bagnaia in ninth, a reasonable result for the second factory Ducati considering he had started 13th.

Fabio Quartararo rounded out the top 10. He had to serve a long-lap penalty for his role in the first-corner collision on Saturday and never featured at the front.

Enea Bastianini crashed out of fourth on the first lap, almost gathering a number of other riders as he slid into the second part of the Turn 12 chicane.

The race result also marks the first time Marc Marquez has won seven consecutive races since 2014, when he won 10 straight races on his way to victory.

He is one of four riders to have won world championship titles in three different categories, after Mike Hailwood, Phil Read and Valentino Rossi. He has won eight Grand Prix World Championships, six of which are in the premier class.

Marquez became the third Spaniard after Àlex Crivillé and Jorge Lorenzo to win the premier class title, and is the most successful Spanish rider in MotoGP to date with 72 wins, most recently the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix.

In 2013 he became the first rider since Kenny Roberts in 1978 to win the premier class title in his debut season, and the youngest to win the title overall, at 20 years and 266 days of age.
