Maresca Targets Europa Conference League Trophy
Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca has revealed that the team is targeting the Europa Conference League trophy while insisting that they are ready to win at cost.
The Blues will take on Real Betis on Wednesday in the final of the competition on Wednesday in Poland.
Maresca praised the players for sealing a Champions League return while urging them to show up on Wednesday.
He said: “The message over the last 48 hours has been, ‘We did something important [qualifying for the Champions League], but if we want to confirm that we are becoming an important club again, we need to show the desire to win the game and the trophy’.
“So it’s job done [in the Premier League], fantastic, and we’re happy. But tomorrow is a different game, a final, and we want to win at any cost.
“Every day we have something to prove, no doubt. What we have done [qualifying for the Champions League] is done. Now we have to prove ourselves again tomorrow.
“We have played many games this season in this competition, now we have just one more.
“For sure, for me personally [there is something to prove], but the message to the players is exactly the same. Every day is a chance to improve, and we want to compete for titles.
Nicolas Jackson is expected to return to lead the line for Chelsea in the encounter after missing their last two Premier League games, Maresca is backing him to deliver against Real Betis.
He said: “Newcastle away was an important game, and he left his team-mates with ten players for one hour, Maresca reflected on Jackson’s red card at St James’ Park.
“He is a good guy, recognised his mistake and apologised with his team-mates, which was important. So, I am sure tomorrow he is going to do a very good game for us.”
Chelsea will be the first side to win the all three European competitions if they emerge champions against Real Betis.
The Blues have won two Champions League trophies in 2012, and 2021 while winning the Europa League in 2013, and 2019.
