Man United Coach Demands Change After 16th Defeat Of Season Against Brentford

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has admitted that there is a need for change at the club following their 16th defeat of a miserable season against Brentford on Sunday.

The Red Devils suffered a 4-3 defeat at the Gtech Community Stadium to slip to 15th on the Premier League table.

Mason Mount gave Manchester United the lead in the 14th minute before Luke Shaw scored an own goal to equalise for the hosts in the 27th minute.

Kevin Schade scored two powerful headers to give Brentford a 3-1 lead, Wissa added the fourth goal.

Alejandro Garnacho, and Amad Diallo scored two late goals to reduce the deficit for Manchester United but Brentford held on to seal a deserved victory.

Amorim made eight changes to the side that defeated Real Sociedad in the Europa League on Thursday.

However, he was disappointed with the performance, calling for a wholesale change in the team.

He said: “It was a reflection of our season. We started well and controlled well, we suffered with the set pieces and throw-ins so we knew we would struggle against them.

“The players have to understand we cannot do this anymore, we know the context of the season and we need to change that.”

Amorim was impressed with the young players’ performances while urging the team to switch their attention to the second leg against Real Sociedad.

He said: “I liked [the performance of] the young kids. I liked how we controlled the game without many occasions to score. We fought and in the end we lost, but there are good things for the future.

“I think it’s stressful to lose games. When we’re fighting for a title it’s not stressful. I have no doubts that we are playing better and we are understanding the way we play, even in this context. So we have to take all the hits in these moments.

“We are losing games in the Premier League, but we are fighting for the Europa League so we need to accept that and to think about it now, Thursday , which is the most important game for us.”

Manchester United have failed to win in their last six matches in the Premier League.

The victory moved Brentford up to ninth on the log while Manchester United occupy the 15th position with three matches to go.

The Red Devils will be back in action in the Europa League semi-final second leg on Thursday.

Up next for Brentford in the Premier League is a trip to Ipswich Town while Manchester United take on West Ham.
