Major Roads Shut As Enugu Marathon Kicks Off Saturday
A number of major roads within the Enugu metropolis are to be shut down as the Enugu International 42km Marathon is held this Saturday.
This was announced by the state Ministry of Transport in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Transport, Dr Obi Ozor.
Dr Obi said the shutting down was among the safety and traffic control measures for thousands of runners, including international athletes
According to him, the affected roads would be completely closed to vehicular movement from 6am to 12noon.
The affected roads, according to the commissioner, are Ogui Junction to Shoprite to Subway (Okpara Avenue); Subway Junction to Radio Nigeria Junction to Kingsway Road through Prisons Junction to Akwata Junction down to Mgbemene Junction; Coal Camp to Police Detective College Junction; Mgbemene to Ziks Avenue Junction; Police Detective College Junction to Edozie through Keyeta Road to UNEC; UNEC to Spar Junction; Spar Junction to Monkey Roundabout (EFCC Road) and NTA Road.
Others are Ike Ekweremadu Road to Okpara Square; Bisala Road to Government House Road; Chime Avenue/Ogui Road to Old Artisan Junction; Tunnel to All Saints Junction; All Saints Road to Ekulu Primary School Junction to Bridge Waters Hotel; and Okpara Square to Toscana Hotel through Nza Street to New Haven.
The release urged commuters to use Police Detective College Junction to Gariki, Uwani Area, Achara Layout, Maryland, Trans Ekulu., Abakpa, Emene, New Artisan to Mega Filling Station (Naira Triangle), New Market to Golf Estate, and Toscana Road to Artisan to Goshen Estate to Mega to Emene as alternative routes.
It added, “There will be no vehicle movement in the affected areas during the closure period. All motorists, commuters, and residents are advised to plan their routes ahead of time and cooperate with traffic management personnel.
“Let’s show the world the true spirit of Enugu — hospitality, discipline, and pride in global excellence.”
