A cleaner in Maiduguri, Borno State, has returned ₦4.8 million that was wrongly deposited into her bank account.

The woman, Faiza Abdulkadir, earns just ₦30,000 a month working at a health centre.

She told journalists that she chose to return the money because of her fear of God.

“The money was not mine. I wanted peace of mind and to avoid God’s punishment on the Day of Judgement,” she said.

Faiza explained that it took her three days to complete the bank processes before the money was finally returned to its rightful owner.

“I could not rest or eat properly during those days until I returned it,” she added.

Neighbors and bank officials praised her honesty, describing her as a woman of discipline who lives modestly with her five children.

One bank staff recalled how others in the past had spent such money and caused serious problems for the bank.

“Despite her situation, she chose to do the right thing. It shows her strong values,” he saction.

Faiza’s action has been widely celebrated in Maiduguri as a rare example of integrity.
