Liverpool Defeats Bournemouth 4-2 In EPL Opener
Liverpool opened their 2025-26 Premier League campaign with a 4-2 win over Bournemouth on Friday at Anfield.
The Reds recovered from their Community Shield defeat to Crystal Palace in style with a stunning attacking performance in front of their fans.
The quartet of Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, and Hugo Ekitike were handed their Premier League debuts from the start.
It was Ekitike who opened the scoring with a fine individual effort just before half-time to give Liverpool a 1-0 lead.
The match was stopped briefly in the first half after Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo was racially abused by someone in the crowd.
Three minutes after the restart, Ekitike assisted Cody Gakpo, who produced a clinical finish in the box to make it 2-0.
Semenyo reduced the deficit for Bournemouth in the 64th minute with a close-range finish before restoring parity with a stunning goal from a solo run from his own half in the 76th minute.
Substitute Federico Chiesa rifled home the third goal in the 88th minute for his first-ever Premier League goal.
Salah put the icing on the cake with a low effort in the 94th minute to hand Liverpool the maximum points on the opening day of the season.
Salah is the first player to score 10 Premier League goals on matchday one in the competition’s history.
He has now scored or assisted on the opening weekend in every Premier League season since he joined Liverpool.
The Reds will take on Newcastle United next Monday, while Bournemouth will be in action against Wolves on Saturday.
