The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu North Local Government Area of Enugu State, Dr Ibenaku Onoh, has been declared the winner of the just-concluded council election for the LGA.

THE WHISTLER reports that the election held on Saturday across the seventeen local government areas of the state.

Onoh, a former member of the Enugu State House of Assembly, in a post-victory speech, said he would make developmental projects of his LGA a priority.

While expressing gratitude to the people of Enugu North for their support, Dr Onoh said he would not take their mandate for granted.

“My administration will prioritize developmental projects that would uplift the lives of the local residents,” he said, adding that, “I want to replicate what Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of Enugu State is currently doing in the state.”

Dr Onoh also commended the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) for organizing a transparent election. He encouraged his opponents to join hands with his regime in working for the progress of the local government.

The Chairman of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), Prof Chris Chimdubem Ngwu, had, Sunday, announced Dr Onoh winner with a total of 63,811 votes to defeat his closest rival, Hon Uche Onyia, of the Labour Party who scored 11,740 .

Meanwhile, a stakeholder in the local government, Mr Gabriel Eneh, has charged Dr Onoh to use his good offices to address some ecological challenges of some communities in the area.

Eneh said, “The impact of coal mining in our area is still a problem to us. It makes farming difficult. Our land is vulnerable to erosion. We want the new chairman to connect the state and federal governments to address these nagging issues. During coal mining, we paid our dues because the coal deposits in the belly of our soil were sources of revenue and energy to Nigeria. But today, we have become victims of landmines and other ecological problems. This should be addressed.”
