LG Election: ‘Don’t Take Anything For Granted’ — Sanwo-Olu Tells APC Candidates

As Lagos prepares for the July 12 local government elections, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has charged All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates and stakeholders not to be complacent but to mobilize vigorously to secure victory at the polls.
Speaking on Tuesday during a Stakeholders’ Special Engagement held at Lagos House, Marina, Sanwo-Olu urged party leaders, candidates, and supporters to intensify grassroots campaigns across the 57 local government and local council development areas.
“Every election is local. Don’t take anything for granted. Go and work; go and engage. Go and touch everyone that needs to be reached. Let the people see those that they want to vote for. Let the people know the candidates they want to vote for,” the governor said.
He emphasized the importance of unity within the party and encouraged members to vote and remain at polling units to ensure that votes are properly counted and results transparently announced.
“We must come out in our large numbers to campaign for our candidates. We must go out and cast our votes and wait for them to count our votes. We must wait for them to announce our results.
“We have come here to encourage ourselves. Let us go out and campaign for all the candidates. Let us go out and ensure a huge victory is for them. From the victory, let us see that indeed, the APC is a validly supported party in Lagos State,” he added.
Sanwo-Olu also assured party members that the Lagos APC would comply fully with all electoral guidelines as outlined by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).
In attendance at the event were top APC stakeholders, including members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) — highest decision making body of APC in Lagos, state executive council, lawmakers, party executives, and the candidates contesting the July 12 polls.
Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, said the engagement was organised to strengthen collaboration between the governor and party members as they prepare for the elections.
He urged members to support the endorsed candidates and work to ensure their victory at the polls.
“Let’s work together as one big family; today our leader is the President of Nigeria, and we need to make him proud on July 12,” Ojelabi said.
Leader of the GAC, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, advised the candidates to emulate the leadership legacies of President Bola Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu.
“Don’t be eager to acquire wealth and riches. Be more concerned about bequeathing dividends of democracy to the people,” he cautioned.
With the elections just weeks away, the Lagos APC is intensifying its mobilization efforts to maintain its dominance in the state’s grassroots governance. Early this month, the party inaugurated a 40-man campaign council ahead of the elections.
