Let’s Work Together To Defeat Insecurity – AIG Zone 10
The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 10, Mr. Gyogon A. Grimah, has assured that the zonal command will not fail in its supervisory role and will continue to encourage officers in the field to excel in the fight against insecurity.
Zone 10 of the Nigeria Police Force comprises the Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara State Police Commands.
Speaking in Sokoto, Grimah, who assumed duty in March 2025, stressed that insecurity in the region is far from over.
“I won’t claim that insecurity is waning or has ended, especially in our zone, given the numerous incidents we’ve witnessed. Even if incidents don’t occur in town, negative developments on the outskirts still concern us.
“The loss of one life is significant, equivalent to many, considering the potential impact on future generations”
Grimah explained that his approach is to build on existing operational and tactical structures rather than dismantle them.
“If I come in and say I am bringing something entirely new, it is like demolishing all the structures on ground.
“We assess where we are doing well, identify areas for improvement, and work to strengthen them”
He praised the “real field soldiers” who are the officers on the frontlines for their sacrifices, saying they are the first responders to incidents before reports reach the zonal headquarters.
“It is not just because I am here that things are changing. There are officers and men really working out there. Mine is to encourage them to do more”
The AIG urged the media to focus on security achievements rather than giving prominence to criminal activities, which he warned could embolden criminals and spread fear among the public.
According to him, criminals should not be given the space to feel important, to avoid dampening the spirit of security operatives, adding that reports must promote national interest and downplay anything capable of igniting negative public reactions.
Grimah commended journalists for their support and pledged to strengthen collaboration with the press, describing them as critical allies in the fight against crime.
“Yes, we carry arms to fight, but you carry your pen to help us fight. If we face this common enemy together, we are bound to defeat them. Tomorrow can be better than today. That belief is the moving force that keeps us going”
The AIG reaffirmed his commitment, along with his management team, to work in synergy with the commissioners of police in Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara to “sanitize the environment” and create an enabling atmosphere for citizens to carry out their lawful daily activities.
