LeBron James Sets New NBA Record Against Golden State Warriors
LeBron James added another feather to his cap in the NBA against the Golden State Warriors with a stunning performance to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 120-112 victory.
The 40-year-old became the oldest player in NBA history to top 40 points in the encounter to set another record in the competition.
At the age of 40 years and 38 days old, James has broken the record of Michael Jordan, who scored 43 points on Feb. 21, 2003, for the Washington Wizards at 40 years, and 4 days old.
James produced a dominant performance against the Golden State Warriors scoring 42 points with his first five 3-point attempts, including three straight in a 28-second span in the second quarter.
He was delighted to lead the Lakers to their 10th victory in 12 games.
James said: “What do I think? That I’m old. That’s what I think. I need a glass of wine and some sleep, that’s the first thing I think about.
“The biggest thing is we got the win, obviously. But throughout my journey, anytime I’ve been named or in the category or whatever the case, crossed paths with any of the greats, it’s always humbling. Just to know where I come from. And I love the game so much. So it’s pretty cool.”
He also added a season-best 17 rebounds to go with eight assists and six 3-pointers.
Los Angeles Lakers coach, J J Reddick was full of praise for James, describing his performance as remarkable.
He said: “I think with LeBron, we’ve run out of words and superlatives and descriptions to sort of capture what he’s doing at this stage of his career and at this age. It continues to be remarkable, it really does. And he really led us tonight.”
He is also the youngest player in league history to score 40 in a game. He dropped 41 for the Cleveland Cavaliers on March 27, 2004, when he was 19 years and 88 days old.
James has won four NBA championships from 10 NBA Finals appearances, having made eight consecutive appearances between 2011 and 2018.
He also won the inaugural NBA Cup in 2023 with the Lakers, three Olympic gold medals as a member of the U.S. national team, and the Olympics MVP in the 2024 Summer Olympics.
The Los Angeles Lakers will be hoping for another impressive performance from James when they take on the Indiana Pacers on Saturday.
