Leadership crisis plagues ADC in Adamawa
As the profile of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, continues to rise in Adamawa State, so too is its leadership increasingly being contested.
The party’s adoption at the national level as a platform for notable opposition politicians has long triggered a scramble for control within the state, prompting a fierce struggle for its leadership.
The contention surrounding the leadership of the Adamawa chapter appears to have intensified earlier in the week when a son of the soil, and one of the most prominent political figures, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, formally adopted ADC.
A close loyalist of Atiku, Usman Jada, who is also his kinsman, acknowledged the crisis over who leads the party in the state on Saturday when he declared support for one of the contenders.
Usman Jada, better known simply as Calculate, asserted that Shehu Yohanna is the substantive chairman of the Adamawa ADC, dismissing Arabi Mustapha’s claim to the leadership.
Calculate said the dispute between Yohanna and Mustapha was orchestrated by fifth columnists seeking to exploit ADC to serve their ulterior motives.
“There is no way a mega coalition like our own will come into play without some hiccups but we’re on top of the game,” he said, emphasising that there is no ambiguity regarding the leadership of ADC in Adamawa State.
He added, “In Adamawa ADC we have only one substantive leadership. And that is the leadership of Comrade Shehu Yohanna. It is the leadership recognised by the national secretariat of the party.”
