Lagos Tout Charged For Assaulting Female Bus Driver
The Nigeria Police Force has filed a three-count charge against Friday Onu, a Lagos street tax collector—commonly known as an agbero—for allegedly assaulting a female commercial bus driver who attempted to stop him from stealing her car battery.
In a video obtained by THE WHISTLER on Wednesday, the victim, Yetunde Amole, was seen crying and pleading for justice following the brutal attack.
According to Amole, the incident occurred on Monday under a bridge near the Oriental Hotel. She said Onu had boarded her vehicle, claiming he was heading to the Nigerian Law School.
However, she became suspicious after noticing through her rearview mirror that he was attempting to remove her car battery.
When she confronted him, Onu allegedly launched a violent attack, beating her, tearing her clothes, and dragging her in public.
The incident sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many Nigerians demanding swift justice.
In a statement on Wednesday, the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed Onu’s arrest and assured the public that justice would be served.
According to the charge sheet seen by THE WHISTLER on Thursday, Onu was charged under Section 168(d), Section 406(1)(2), and Section 173 provisions of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.
The first count reads: “That you FRIDAY ONU ‘M’ On the 07/04/2025, at about 10:00 hrs at Sand Field Bus stop, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, within Lagos Magisterial District, you conducted yourself in a manner likely to cause the breach of public peace by dragging down one Yetunde Amole ‘f’, a commercial bus driver, from her commercial bus with Reg No. EPE 306 YJ and tore her shirt and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 168 (d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.”
The second count states: That you, FRIDAY ONU ‘M’, on the same date, time and place at the aforementioned magisterial district, with intent to commit a felony, did attempt to steal a motor battery valued at N90,000, property of Yetunde Amole ‘f’, and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 406 (1) (2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.”
The third count reads: “That you FRIDAY ONU ‘M’ on the same date, time and place at the aforementioned magisterial district did unlawfully assault one Yetunde Amole ‘f’ by hitting her on her face and her back with your fist blow and caused her body harm and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria 2015.”
