The Lagos State Police Command has summoned four officers following allegations of extorting N1m from members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The incident was brought to light by an X user, Olúyẹmí Fásípè, under the handle @YemieFash, in a post on Thursday.

Dear @BenHundeyin ,

Your officers today in Surulere extorted 1 million naira from 3 corps members. They were threatened with firearms, kidnapped, and taken to the KAFARU OLUWOLE TINUBU HOUSE AREA C POLICE COMMAND of the @LagosPoliceNG where they were robbed. Their offense was… pic.twitter.com/8nJeD0iIFq

The officers, reportedly attached to Kafaru Oluwole Tinubu House, Area C Police Command, Surulere, Lagos State, are alleged to have harassed the corps members during a stop-and-search operation.

According to Fásípè, after being threatened by the officers, the corps members were taken to the Kafaru Oluwole Tinubu House, where they were “robbed.”

In videos shared by Fásípè, a police officer can be seen demanding the vehicle occupants’ car documents.

Fásípè wrote: “Dear @BenHundeyin, Your officers today in Surulere extorted 1 million naira from 3 corps members. They were threatened with firearms, kidnapped, and taken to the Kafaru Oluwole Tinubu House, Area C Police Command of the @LagosPoliceNG, where they were robbed. Their offence was the absence of a physical copy of a driver’s license. This is evil.”

He added, “According to the victims, the officer in mufti was the one who collected the money (their boss).”

“@BenHundeyin, here are the transaction receipts and a voice note of one of the victims explaining how the rogue officers extorted money from the three corps members,” Fásípè further stated.

Reacting to the allegations on Friday, Lagos Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the officers have been summoned, and their trial has commenced.

The men have been summoned and their trial has commenced.

We urge the complainants to visit the Complaint Response Unit at the State Headquarters to testify at the ongoing trial. https://t.co/yu6Nnm69AP pic.twitter.com/n1Hs2yraIf
