Lagos Partners With Diageo Nigeria to Empower 250 Youths in Hospitality, Entrepreneurship

The Lagos State Government has partnered with Diageo Nigeria to empower over 250 youths through targeted training in hospitality, entrepreneurship, and retail management. This initiative aims to boost job creation and enhance youth capacity development.

The programme is part of Diageo’s “Learning for Life” (L4L) initiative, reflecting the state’s strategic focus on public-private partnerships that equip young people with market-relevant skills.

The programme was officially inaugurated on Monday, July 14, 2025, at The Wings Tower in Victoria Island, Lagos.

Hon. Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, represented Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu at the event. He praised Diageo Nigeria for selecting Lagos as a partner in the rollout of the initiative.

Governor Sanwo-Olu described the programme as “a bold step toward sustainable youth development,” highlighting its connection to the administration’s THEMES+ Agenda, particularly in areas such as inclusive education, youth empowerment, and social welfare.

“This partnership between Diageo Nigeria and the Lagos State Government is a shining example of how public-private collaboration can drive meaningful change, especially in tackling unemployment and promoting skills development,” the Governor stated.

The L4L programme is designed to equip participants with hands-on expertise in high-demand areas such as bartending, customer service, retail, and small business development — sectors that align with Lagos’ dynamic tourism and service industries.

Through this collaboration, the Lagos State Government aims to create not just jobs but long-term, income-generating opportunities that support sustainable economic growth.
