Lagos Impounds 51 Vehicles For Traffic Offences, Prosecute Drivers

No fewer than 51 vehicles have been impounded by the Lagos State Taskforce for varying traffic offenses.

In a statement, the spokesperson of the agency, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, said the drivers of the vehicles would be prosecuted.

The vehicles were impounded during enforcement operations at Lawanson Bus-stop in Itire-Surulere and Oba Akran in Ikeja areas of the state.

Abdulraheem explained that commercial buses popularly referred to as Danfo had caused untold traffic inconveniences to motorists in these areas

The operation, led by the Chairman of the agency, Adetayo Akerele, was carried out to address long-standing complaints about illegal parking and commercial vehicles obstructing traffic around the areas.

This comes less than a week after an officer of the task force sustained injuries after being attacked by a commercial bus driver who resisted the impoundment of his vehicle for traffic obstruction.

The incident happened when the agency carried out a comprehensive traffic enforcement exercise in Obalende and Oworonshoki areas, where activities of commercial bus drivers have caused increased travel time for road users.

During the operation, a total of 56 vehicles were impounded, while seven suspects were arrested for obstruction of justice.
