Lagos govt seals Lekki nightclub over noise pollution
A joint task force comprising officials from the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps and the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA, has sealed off Light House Club, located along Admiralty Way in Lekki, for breaching environmental regulations.
The enforcement action, carried out on Monday, was disclosed in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab.
He revealed that the club was shut down due to persistent noise pollution and repeated disregard for official warnings.
According to Wahab, the facility violated Lagos State’s environmental laws on noise levels, prompting regulatory agencies to intervene after earlier notices went unheeded.
He stated that the closure will remain in force until the management of Light House Club fully complies with the required environmental standards.
“This includes installing appropriate soundproofing systems and undergoing verification by LASEPA to confirm that noise emissions fall within the approved limits,” Wahab explained.
He also emphasised that the state government will not tolerate non-compliance with environmental regulations by entertainment venues.
“Our environmental laws are not negotiable. The right of Lagos residents to enjoy peace and quiet in their communities will always take priority over commercial interests,” Wahab asserted.
