Lagos Govt announces night repairs on Ozumba Mbadiwe Road
The Lagos State Government has announced that repair works will begin on a section of Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, from the Bonny Camp junction, starting Monday, September 15, 2025.
According to the Ministry of Transportation, the exercise is scheduled to last one week, concluding on Sunday, September 21, 2025. The works will be carried out strictly at night between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. daily, to ease traffic pressure on the busy corridor.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, explained that the decision to work overnight was deliberate, aimed at minimizing disruption to motorists and businesses that depend on the road during the day.
He urged residents and commuters to remain patient throughout the period.
“Ozumba Mbadiwe Road is a critical artery linking Victoria Island with other parts of Lagos. This rehabilitation is part of our continuous efforts to maintain and improve the state’s road infrastructure. We appeal to motorists to cooperate with traffic officers and show understanding during this short exercise,” Osiyemi stated.
The road, which serves as a major link for commuters from the Lekki axis into Victoria Island and Ikoyi, is notorious for heavy gridlock during peak hours.
Previous repairs on the stretch have often triggered congestion, prompting the government to adopt night-time interventions. Authorities, however, assured that once completed, the rehabilitated section will provide smoother and safer passage for all categories of vehicles.
