The Lagos State Police Command on Thursday, arraigned a 31-year-old man, Gabriel Iorlaha, before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding a company of N10.2 million under false pretence of being its staff.

Iorlaha, a resident of Oworonshoki, Lagos, was brought before Magistrate L.A. Owolabi on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, impersonation, stealing, and obtaining money by false pretence.

According to the prosecution, led by SP Josephine Ikhayere, the defendant and some accomplices still at large allegedly committed the offences between April 2019 and December 2022 within the Ikeja Magisterial District.

Ikhayere told the court that Iorlaha and his collaborators fraudulently obtained N10.2 million belonging to Bodye Beautiful Nigeria and diverted the funds for personal use.

The prosecutor informed the court that the alleged acts contravened Sections 411, 314(1)(2)(3), 287(7), and 380(1) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015. Section 314 prescribes up to 14 years’ imprisonment for fraud, Section 287(7) stipulates seven years for stealing, while Section 380(1) provides three years for impersonation.

The defendant pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Owolabi granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, directing that one surety must provide proof of tax payment.

The case was adjourned until October 2 for further hearing.
