Lagos Clears Street Traders In Mile 2

The Lagos State Government, through its enforcement team, has carried out a dislodgement operation targeting illegal street traders at 2nd Rainbow Junction, inward Mile 2.

The operation, which took place on Monday, was aimed at removing traders whose activities had become a major source of nuisance in the area.

According to the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the presence of unregulated street trading in that axis had resulted in severe traffic obstructions, posed risks to pedestrian safety, and contributed significantly to environmental degradation through indiscriminate littering.

“Our enforcement team is currently dislodging illegal street traders constituting nuisance at 2nd Rainbow Junction, inward Mile 2. These activities obstruct traffic flow, endanger pedestrians, and litter the environment,” Wahab stated.

The commissioner reiterated the government commitment to keeping its roads safe, clean, and free of all forms of environmental infractions.

“We remain committed to keeping our roads safe, clean, and free of all forms of environmental infractions,” he added.

This comes one week after enforcement teams, led by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), dislodged illegal street traders on Bishop Oluwole Street in Victoria Island.

The government said this action is part of its ongoing efforts to restore order, ensure free vehicular and pedestrian movement, and maintain the aesthetic and environmental standards of the city.

It urged all traders to relocate to approved markets and commercial zones, adding that continuous violation would attract stricter sanctions.
