Lagos APC Denies Resignation Order for LG Chairmen

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has debunked claims that incumbent council chairmen seeking re-election have been directed to resign their positions.

This clarification was made by Seye Oladejo, the party’s spokesperson, following the circulation of what he described as a misleading publication.

According to Oladejo, the false report attributed the directive to Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, the Lagos State APC Chairman.

He emphasized that the claim was a misrepresentation designed to serve the interests of the publisher.

Oladejo explained that the directive in question was issued to APC local government party chairmen, not incumbent council chairmen.

He stated that party chairmen at the local government level, who are seeking elective positions in the upcoming local council elections, would be required to resign their current roles once electoral guidelines are released.

The spokesperson clarified that the decision was aimed at ensuring fairness and impartiality during the election process.

“Our attention has been drawn to a false directive purportedly issued by the Lagos State Chairman of APC, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi to incumbent Council Chairmen who intend to seek re-election to resign their offices.

“We want to make it abundantly clear that there’s no iota truth in the publication as it was twisted to suit the interest of the publisher.

“On the contrary, the directive issued was to APC Local Government Chairmen who seek elective offices during the forth-coming elections to resign their positions as they cannot be umpires and contestants at the same time.

“The Local Government party chairmen who double as aspirants in the coming elections, for emphasis, will be required to resign their current positions when the guidelines are released,” Oladejo said in a statement.

He also called on APC members and the general public to avoid spreading unverified information, warning that such actions could unnecessarily escalate tensions within the party.

“We wish to enjoin party members and the general public to refrain from peddling misleading information that can heat up the polity.

“As we await the electoral guidelines from the newly reconstituted LASIEC, we should all continue to promote activities that will engender party cohesion and understanding,” Oladejo added.
