Lab Council Inducts 187 Abia Varsity Graduates
The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) has inducted and licensed 187 medical laboratory scientists of Abia State University Uturu.
Delivering a lecture on the topic ‘Medical Laboratory Molecular Science in the service of man for National development’, during the occasion, Professor Boniface Ekpo said Medical Laboratory Scientists have remained the pathfinder and the custodians of the medical profession pointing out that they play the lead role in healthcare delivery.
The Registrar of MLSCN, Dr Donald Ofili represented by Dr Osarati Agbonlahor advised the graduates to abide by the ethics of the profession revealing that anybody who goes contrary to their code of ethics will have his or her License withdrawn.
In their remarks, the Provost College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Professor Chuks Kamanu, represented by Professor A. A. Nwankwo and the Dean, Faculty of Medical Laboratory Science Professor Obioma Okechi said the graduates have been well trained on the principles and procedures in diagnostic Medicine and will now contribute meaningfully to health care delivery in Nigeria and beyond.
Earlier in his speech, the Vice Chancellor, Abia State University Uturu Professor Ndukwe Okeudo charged the graduating Medical Laboratory Scientists of the University to use the knowledge they have acquired to tackle health challenges facing humanity.
“As scientists you must be abreast of modern scientific knowledge, clinical skills, integrity and commitment to evidenced based diagnosis to enable you excel in the profession” he added.
Professor Okeudo congratulated the graduating Medical Laboratory scientists on the success achieved as well as their Parents for the sacrifices made to ensure their success.
Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, Professor Emmanuel Akubugwo, he thanked the Governor and Visitor to the University Dr Alex Otti for his support to Abia State University as well as the giant strides in the Education and Health sectors which have helped Abia State University to soar high in producing quality health professionals.
In her valedictory speech, the overall best graduating student, Agor Rose thanked ABSU management, their lecturers and parents for laying a good educational foundation for them and promised to be good Ambassadors of the University .
