The police in Kwara State have released 48 men arrested along the Alade–Oreke axis of Oke-Ode in Ifelodun Local Government Area on suspicion of possible criminal activity.

The men were arrested on September 4.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, explained that they were moving in clusters on 14 motorcycles when the security team stopped them.

She confirmed that 43 mobile phones and personal items were seized during the arrest.

According to her, investigators subjected the men to detailed profiling and forensic checks on their mobile devices, including call records, communication trails, transaction histories, and geo-location mapping.

After the analysis, the police said they found no evidence linking the suspects to kidnapping, banditry, or organised crime.

Ejire-Adeyemi said: “All forty-eight individuals have been duly released this morning.”

She emphasised that officers conducted the operation in line with human rights standards and investigative protocols, stressing that innocent citizens were not unjustly criminalised.

She added, “The outcome underscores the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to safeguarding our communities against criminal elements.”

The spokesperson urged residents to remain calm and vigilant while sharing credible intelligence with security agencies.

In a separate development, the Oyo State Police Command recovered a silver Toyota Corolla Sport stolen from an e-hailing driver during an armed robbery in Ibadan.

Command spokesperson, Osifeso Adewale, said the vehicle, with registration number LSR 893CX, was traced and recovered following an anti-robbery operation.

He linked the operation to ongoing efforts to address rising attacks on ride-hailing drivers in the state.

The command noted that armed robbers had in recent weeks targeted Uber drivers at gunpoint, stealing cars and cash.

The Iyaganku Divisional Police Headquarters escalated the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for deeper investigation.

According to the statement, the Anti-Robbery Squad acted immediately, combining intelligence gathering with field surveillance before tracking and recovering the Toyota Corolla.

The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State, commended the operation, describing the recovery as proof of the command’s resolve to tackle crime proactively.

He said, “The recovery of the stolen vehicle reflects our determination to confront crime proactively. We are dedicated to protecting our citizens and ensuring those responsible for these criminal acts are brought to justice.”

The command appealed to the public to remain security-conscious and report suspicious activities, assuring residents of its continued commitment to public safety.
