‘Killings in Plateau acts of genocide’ – Gov Mutfwang

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has described the recurring attacks and killings in the state as pure acts of genocide and not the issues of farmer-herder clashes as is being painted.

Gov Mutfwang, who made the assertion on Wednesday when he visited the Jebbu Binde village of Ta-Hoss District in Riyom Local Government Area of the state, where gunmen suspected to be Fulani militias attacked on Monday, killing over 30 people and destroying property worth millions of naira, vowed to escalate the situation to the highest level until the perpetrators of the dastardly act are arrested and brought to justice.

While addressing the traumatized victims of the attacks, Gov. Mutfwang strongly condemned the killings and assured the people that his administration would not abandon them in their time of grief.

He also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to protect the lives and property of citizens in every part of the state while promising to set up a committee to carry out a comprehensive review of the state’s security architecture to ensure those charged with the protection of lives and property discharge their responsibilities without compromise.

“This is not a case of farmer-herder conflict. This is terrorism; this is genocide, plain and simple. And I assure you, we will escalate this matter to the highest levels,” Mutfwang assured.

He further reiterated his administration’s determination to put an end to recurring attacks by non-state actors by deploying every resource at its disposal, including escalating the issue to the highest level.

“Let me promise you, by the grace of God, Riyom will not fall. We will deploy every resource at our disposal to end this genocide.

“We cannot continue like this. These attackers are not spirits; real people carried out these atrocities and vanished without a trace,” Gov. Mutfwang declared.
