Katsina Govt Approves N1.3bn For Health,Power, Education Projects
The Katsina State Government has approved the sum of N1.3bn for various projects in the health,power and education sectors of the economy.
Out of this amount, N500m was approved for state-wide nutrition programme in partnership with UNICEF
It also allocated N400m for malaria control through Global Fund collaboration
The approval was, however, granted for advanced medical imaging equipment to position Katsina as a medical tourism hub
One-megawatt generator was approved to boost electricity supply while N588m was approved for procurement of 156,566 textbooks across 578 secondary schools
The Katsina State Executive Council also approved a series of transformative projects across the health, energy, and education sectors, as part of Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda ongoing commitment to sustainable development and service delivery under the “Building Your Future” blueprint.
These approvals came during the Council’s 10th regular Executive Council meeting chaired by Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal Jobe, with Governor Radda participating virtually to maintain seamless governance and decision-making.
In a press briefing following the meeting, a team of state officials who was led by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Bala Salisu Zango, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Musa Adamu, Special Adviser on Primary and Secondary Education, Alhaji Nura Saleh Katsayal, outlined the key projects and funding decisions.
Briefing the journalists, Dr. Musa Adamu revealed the Council’s approval of ₦500m as counterpart funding to unlock an equal matching grant from UNICEF, aimed at scaling up nutrition programs across the state.
“Our goal is to ensure a healthier next generation,” Adamu stated. “This funding, in partnership with UNICEF, will strengthen nutritional support systems, especially for young girls and children across Katsina State.”
He explained that the state had previously committed ₦200m with the newly approved ₦300m bringing the total state contribution to ₦500m qualifying the state for a ₦1bn joint investment to combat malnutrition.
The Council further endorsed Katsina’s participation in a malaria prevention programme in partnership with Society for Family Health and the Global Fund.
The state will contribute 30 per cent of the total cost, with development partners covering the remaining 70 per cent.
“These decisions reflect the administration’s proactive public health agenda,” Adamu added. “We are moving swiftly to reduce the malaria burden and ensure inclusive access to healthcare.”
