Kano Shuts Down 8 Fun Spots Over Indecency

The Kano State Film and Video Censorship Board has revoked the operational licences of eight entertainment centres across the state, citing persistent violations of cultural, religious, and regulatory standards.

The affected centres include Hamdala Entertainment, Lady J Entertainment, Dan Hausa Entertainment, Wazobiya Entertainment, Ni’ima Entertainment, Ariya Entertainment, Babbangida Entertainment, and Harsashi Entertainment.

According to the Executive Secretary of the board, Abba El-Mustapha, in a statement, the centres were involved in hosting late-night events, displaying vulgar content, and operating without necessary regulatory approvals.

“This action reflects our commitment to ensuring that Kano’s entertainment industry operates within the boundaries of our laws and moral standards.

“The banned centres have repeatedly flouted the board’s guidelines, and their operations are no longer permissible,” El-Mustapha said.

He warned that attempts to rebrand or resume operations under new names would attract prosecution.

“Our monitoring teams are vigilant. Any individual or group caught attempting to bypass this ban will be arrested and prosecuted,” he said.
