Kano Police Rescue 75-Year-Old From Kidnappers’ Hideout
The Kano State Police Command on Monday announced the arrest of a suspected kidnapper and rescued a 75-year-old victim, Abdulrahman Yunusa, a native of Maigana in Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, stated that the kidnappers abducted Yunusa on Saturday, May 3, 2024, and held him captive for six days until his rescue on Friday, May 9, 2025.
Kiyawa explained that the command’s anti-kidnapping squad, acting on credible intelligence, raided the hideout of the suspected kidnap syndicate located in Bagau Town, Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State.
According to him, the police found the victim blindfolded and tied up, as the kidnappers awaited a ransom of N20m.
He said, “During the raid on May 9, 2025, one Musa Tukur, a 23-year-old male of Kudan Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was arrested guarding the kidnapped victim in the hideout.
“The victim was found with his eyes covered with fabric and some body parts tied with rope.
“The suspect confessed to conspiring with his accomplices to kidnap the victim from his residence on 3rd May 2025 at about 12:30 pm and holding him hostage for a ransom of N20m.”
When asked if the ransom had already been paid, Haruna told THE WHISTLER, “No, please, no ransom was paid.”
Haruna noted that the police rushed the victim to the hospital for treatment and later reunited him with his family.
The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, commended the officers for their professionalism and expressed gratitude to the public for supporting the police with credible information to fight crime in the state.
