Kano Police Confirm Five Dead, Ten Injured In Explosion
The Kano State Police Command on Saturday confirmed the death of five persons and injury of ten others following an explosion at Yongxing Steel Company, located along Ring Road in Mariri Quarters, Kano State.
The command’s Deputy Public Relations Officer, DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, said the police received a distress call from the Marketing Manager of Yongxing Steel Company, Mr. Ibrahim Udazu, reporting a blast within the factory premises which had injured several individuals.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu, led a team of operatives to the scene and cordoned off the area to restrict public access and prevent further risk.
Adamu disclosed: “Preliminary investigation reveals that the explosion occurred from a truck loaded with scraps from Damaturu, Yobe State, while offloading at the company’s premises.
“As a result, 15 people sustained varying degrees of injury and were immediately rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.
“Regrettably, five of the victims died while receiving treatment, while, others are responding to treatment.”
Further search conducted by the Command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), and Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) unit led to the recovery of seven suspected explosive devices within the vicinity of the blast.
No further injuries were recorded during the recovery.
The police commissioner called for a thorough investigation into the incident, while appealing to members of the public to assist security operatives in identifying the root cause.
He urged, “the public to remain calm and be vigilant, while cooperating with the police to get to the root cause of the unfortunate incident.”
The Kano State Police Command also asked residents to provide relevant information and report suspicious activity.
