Kano police clash with residents in Garko LGA over alleged killing of motorcyclist
Tension in Garko LGA of Kano State heightened on Friday when angry residents clashed with the police, leading to a vehicle being set on fire.
The trouble began after a commercial motorcyclists and other residents demanded that police hand over two suspects in their custody accused of killing a fellow motorcyclist.
According to eyewitnesses, the victim, Umar Idris from Kamfa village, was attacked on his way back from Buda town on Wednesday. They killed him and stole his motorcycle.
Police in the area later arrested two men suspected of committing the crime. When news of the arrest spread, Umar’s colleagues and other residents insisted the suspects must be handed over to them for revenge. This led to a heated confrontation with the police at the station.
During the chaos, a car parked at the station was set ablaze. Witnesses could not confirm if it was a police patrol van or another civilian car.
The spokesman of Kano State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident, saying the police were still investigating the matter.
