The Kano State Police Command has arrested four suspects linked to the violent incident at the Emir’s palace in Kofar Kudu, Kano metropolis, on Sunday.

The suspects allegedly participated in a confrontation involving supporters of the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, and those loyal to the 16th Emir, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II.

The clash was triggered when individuals believed to be supporters of Sanusi blocked a route at Kofar Kudu to prevent Bayero from returning to his residence at the Nassarawa mini palace.

The confrontation occurred shortly after Bayero had visited the family of the late business mogul, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, to offer his condolences.

Tensions escalated at the palace gates, where palace guards reportedly sustained injuries.

Miscreants allegedly damaged police vehicles stationed at the palace and vandalised the main gate.

The spokesperson of the Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the arrest on Tuesday.

“Yes, the command has arrested four suspects, and they are now in police custody as the investigation is still ongoing,” he said.

SP Haruna added that the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, has established an investigative panel to probe the clash involving loyalists of both emirs.

Police preliminary findings, according to Punch, suggest the attack was coordinated to obstruct the Emir’s convoy, prompting swift intervention by security personnel.

The police urged Kano residents to remain calm and law-abiding as they continue efforts to restore order and investigate the root causes of the disturbance.
