Kano Police announces alternative routes as Yaryasa bridge collapses

The Kano State Police Command has asked motorists to use alternative routes after the Yaryasa Bridge in Tudun Wada Local Government Area collapsed due to heavy rainfall.

Police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said in a statement on Saturday that the bridge, which connects Kano to Kaduna, Plateau, Benue, and other eastern states, is now unsafe for use.

“The Command has taken immediate steps to secure the area. Barricades, detours, and warning signs have been set up to guide motorists away from the danger zone,” Kiyawa explained.

He added that officers from the Motor Traffic Division, alongside the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA), and transport unions, are on ground to control traffic and ensure safety.

“The area around the collapsed bridge has been cordoned off to prevent accidents. We appeal motorists traveling towards Tudun Wada and beyond to cooperate with traffic officers and follow the designated detours,” the statement noted.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, urged drivers to remain patient and obey safety instructions.

“Safety is our priority. We are working closely with relevant agencies to reduce the hardship caused by this incident,” the statement added.

The Command said further updates will be shared with the public as the situation develops.
