A Kano State High Court presided over by Justice Nasiru Saminu has sentenced two men, Buhari Abdullahi and Umar Mukhtar Usman, to six months imprisonment for impersonating operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The Kano Zonal Directorate of the EFCC secured the conviction on Friday, July 25.

The duo were arraigned on a one-count charge of falsely presenting themselves as EFCC investigators. They were accused of using forged EFCC identity cards in a bid to deceive unsuspecting individuals, in violation of Section 132 of the Penal Code Law.

The charge reads: “That you, Buhari Abdullahi and Umar Mukhtar Usman, sometime in May 2025 at Kano within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, falsely impersonated investigators of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, used a false identity card, and paraded yourselves as staff of EFCC, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 132 of the Penal Code Law.”

Both defendants pleaded guilty to the charge.

Following their plea, the prosecution counsel, Idris I. Haruna, presented the facts of the case and urged the court to convict them accordingly.

Justice Saminu consequently sentenced each of the defendants to six months imprisonment with an option of a N50,000 fine.

The convicts were earlier arrested by EFCC operatives before being charged and convicted.
