Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has launched a 24-kilometre Kaduna Bus Rapid Transit project.

The project, which is the first of its kind in Northern Nigeria and the second in Nigeria after Lagos, is a collaborative effort between the Kaduna State Government and a French firm, with the Kaduna State Transport Regulatory Authority overseeing its implementation.

Speaking at the launch, the governor emphasised the importance of the project, saying, “When completed, the KBRT project will enhance public transportation, foster sustainable urban development, and improve the quality of life of our citizens.”

He also highlighted the project’s benefits, including streamlined operations, reduced congestion, improved accessibility, and enhanced safety and security.

“By consolidating the various motor parks into a centralised location, we aim to streamline operations, reduce congestion, improve accessibility, and enhance safety and security for everyone,” he said.

He noted that the project includes the construction of a terminal at Kakuri, which will serve as a vital hub for the state’s transportation network on the southern axis.

Sani described the terminal as a “modern, organised, and safe environment for travellers and commercial activities.”

“This initiative will not only facilitate smoother transit for commuters but also promote the KBRT service in our great state.

“The KBRT and Southern Terminal are the latest initiatives geared towards realising our administration’s vision for a more connected and efficient transportation system in Kaduna State.

“Because of the strategic position of Kaduna as a transportation and business hub, I have been in consultation with key stakeholders in the public and private sectors to garner their support and commitments towards the smooth implementation of our master plan on transportation in Kaduna State,” he added.

The KBRT project is part of the governor’s vision for a more connected and efficient transportation system in Kaduna State. He has been in consultation with key stakeholders in the public and private sectors to ensure the project’s smooth implementation.

He added that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged the Federal Government’s support for the project, with a 100 billion naira allocation in the 2025 Budget for the construction of the Kaduna Light Rail Transit (KLRT).

Sani expressed his gratitude to the President, saying, “I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to President Tinubu for his support and commitment to the development of Kaduna State.”

The French Ambassador to Nigeria, Marc Fonbaustier, also commended the Kaduna State Government for its progress in the field of transportation.

“I am impressed by Kaduna State’s progress in the field of transportation and the work of KADSTRA in advancing this project,” he said.
