JUST IN: Police Restore Meranda’s Security Detail Amid Lagos Speakership Tussle
The Lagos State Police Command has restored the security detail of one of the claimants to the speakership position of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda.
According to the command, this follows a comprehensive police personnel audit aimed at ensuring proper deployment of officers across the state.
Speaking at a press briefing in Ikeja, Lagos, the State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, confirmed that four armed police officers attached to the lawmaker have been returned after a successful review of her security needs.
The personnel audit, which is currently ongoing across the state, seeks to identify and withdraw officers assigned to individuals and groups without valid approval while redeploying them to police stations and other official duty posts.
“As I speak with you, the audit of the police personnel attached to Hon. Mojisola Meranda has been completed and the four armed personnel attached to her from the Lagos State Police Command have been returned to her for her protection,” Jimoh stated.
The Commissioner emphasized that the audit is a routine exercise conducted in the public interest and is not targeted at any individual or group.
He noted that the exercise ensures police officers are accounted for, along with their firearms and crime-fighting equipment, while also preventing unauthorized deployments.
Security aides assigned to Meranda were withdrawn on Thursday, amid the return of the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.
