JUST IN: NIS Raises Nigerian Passport Fees By 100%

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced an upward review of the application fees for the Nigerian Standard Passport, with the new charges set to take effect from September 1, 2025.

According to a statement signed by the Service Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi, the adjustment is aimed at upholding the quality and integrity of the Nigerian passport while ensuring improved service delivery.

Under the revised structure, applications made within Nigeria will now attract N100,000 for the 32-page passport with five-year validity, and N200,000 for the 64-page passport with ten-year validity.

However, passport application fees for Nigerians in the diaspora remain unchanged at $150 for the 32-page booklet (five-year validity) and $230 for the 64-page booklet (ten-year validity).

“The review which only affect Passport Application fees made in Nigeria, now set a new fee thresholds for 32-page with 5-year validity at N100,000 and 64-page with 10-year validity at N200,000.

“Meanwhile, Nigerian Passport Application fees made by Nigerians in diaspora remain unchanged at $150 for 32-page with 5-year validity and $230 for 64-page with 10-year validity,” the statement read.

This latest review comes barely a year after the Federal Government approved an earlier upward adjustment in August 2024, which took effect on September 1, 2024.

At the time, the 32-page, five-year passport booklet was increased from N35,000 to N50,000, while the 64-page, ten-year booklet rose from N70,000 to N100,000.

The NIS stressed that the decision was carefully considered to strike a balance between sustaining the production quality of the passport and making the service accessible to citizens.

The Service reiterates its commitment to balancing quality service delivery with the need to ensure passport services are accessible to all Nigerians

The review comes amid ongoing efforts by the Immigration Service to digitise and streamline passport issuance processes, curb racketeering, and enhance the overall credibility of the Nigerian travel document.
