JUST IN: Chidimma Adetshina Crowned Miss Universe Nigeria
Chidimma Adetshina, a Nigerian-South African model, has been crowned winner of the Miss Universe Nigeria beauty contest.
Adetshina, who was forced to drop out of the Miss South Africa pageant following a controversy about her citizenship, had accepted an invitation to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria beauty contest.
The organisers of the beauty contest announced the top five finalists as Miss Taraba Chidimma Adetshina, Miss Anambra Paula Ezendu, Miss Edo Edeifo Brittany, Miss Ondo Ayegbidun Peace Olamide, and Miss Rivers Nyekachi Douglas.
The top three winners were then revealed, with Miss Ondo named Miss Lush, Miss Anambra as the first runner-up and Miss Supranational, and Chidimma Adetshina as the overall winner.
In her acceptance speech, the South African-born model said, “This crown is not just for beauty; it’s a call for unity”
Adetshina was born in 2001 in Soweto, South Africa, to a Nigerian father, and a Mozambican mother. Her father is of Igbo descent while her mother is a Mozambican who became a naturalized citizen of South Africa.
She was competing in Miss South Africa and reached the top 11 finalists before dropping out, citing a fear about her safety and well-being after a series of xenophobic threats over her dual nationality.
