Judiciary staff in Kwara suspend strike action, to resume Thursday
Striking Judiciary staff in Kwara State, JUSUN, on Wednesday, suspended the three-day old strike action following a series of negotiations with the state government, DAILY POST reports.
According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer, of the union, Aliyu Ahmad Gold in Ilorin on Wednesday, “This development is a result of the assurance by the Kwara State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, to implement the Consolidated Judicial Salary Structure (CONJUSS) for judiciary workers in Kwara State.
The union explained that “the strike was prompted by the delay in implementing our core demands, including the long-overdue salary and allowances review and the adoption of CONJUSS.
“We are confident that this agreement will address these issues and improve the welfare of judiciary workers in the state,” the statement added.
The union appreciated the noble intervention of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the Chief Judge of Kwara State, Justice Abiodun Ayodele Adebara, the Acting Head of Service, Dr Olufunke Mercy Shittu, the Commissioner of Finance, Dr Hauwa Nuru, and other stakeholders, who contributed to the successful resolution of the strike.
The agreement, indicated that “the strike is only suspended based on the mutual agreement by all concerned parties that the implementation of the CONJUSS payment structure for judiciary workers in Kwara State will start in September 2025.
“We will continue to monitor the implementation process to ensure that it is smooth and that all judiciary workers in the state benefit from the new salary structure.”
The state government has also assured that no member of the union will be harassed or unjustly threatened for participating in the industrial action, “we welcome this assurance and expect the state government to honor this commitment.”
Following the suspension of the strike, the union directed all its members across the state to resume work tomorrow, Thursday, August 28, 2025.
“As the industrial action has been conditionally suspended. We expect all members to return to work with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to delivering quality judicial services to the people of Kwara State.
“The leadership of the Union remains steadfast in defending the welfare, dignity, and professional rights of all judiciary workers in Kwara state. We are confident that this agreement will strengthen the relationship between the judiciary workers and the state government, and ultimately benefit the people of Kwara state,” the statement added.
The union also commended the stakeholders who contributed to the successful resolution of the strike, including the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Trade Union Congress, TUC, Joint Negotiating Council, JNC, and other relevant stakeholders.
