Jigawa State Agency for the Control of AIDS (JISACA) has targeted to eliminate HIV/AIDS by the year 2030.

The agency’s manager, Ibrahim Almajiri, stated this while speaking in a Radio Jigawa program Jigawa A Yau.

He said the state has been making progress for years in controlling the spread of the disease.

According to him, “the state has been providing support to people living with HIV/AIDS, including psychosocial support, access to medication, and nutritious food supplies, which has played a vital role in reducing the stigma and discrimination in the state.”

He said the state has also established 17 anti-retroviral treatment centers in different parts of the state, in addition to several HIV testing centers.

“We are also planning to begin dispensing anti-retroviral drugs at the primary healthcare centers across the state to make it more easily for the patients to access the drugs, also we made it compulsory for any intending couple to conduct HIV test before the wedding.

“In addition, all the HIV-positive patients have been enrolled into Dan Modi Healthcare program,” he said.

Available Data shows that over two million people are currently living with HIV across Nigeria and Jigawa State is the least with the number of HIV cases with about 0.3% of its population affected.
