JAMB Inducts New Institutions On Admission Framework
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has held an interactive meeting with principal officers of newly established, upgraded, and adopted universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
The meeting was held in Abuja to introduce the institutions to the regulatory framework guiding admission processing on the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) and the operations of the Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS).
According to JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-Haq Oloyede, the meeting was necessary due to the late commencement of these institutions in the academic session.
“This meeting is also to outline proper procedure for recruiting candidates for the 2025 admission (and for 2024, for those of you whose commencement date was 2024).
“This is because some of your institutions might not have been part of the choices available to the candidates during 2025 (and 2024 too) UTME/DE registration,” he said.
He explained that CAPS ensures transparency, fairness, and inclusiveness in admissions, while IBASS guides candidates through eligibility checks for intended programs.
The meeting involved 15 Federal Colleges of Education with dual mandates, 22 new universities, 8 upgraded colleges of education/polytechnics to universities, 2 adopted universities, 33 newly established polytechnics/monotechnics, and 12 newly established colleges of education.
JAMB assured the institutions of its readiness to render necessary support to ensure compliance with admission rules and accommodate prospective candidates.
The institutions were advised to forward details of officers to operate their CAPS and IBASS accounts and to confirm officers to handle these accounts where applicable.
A live demonstration of CAPS and IBASS was also arranged to familiarize the institutions with the systems.
To source for candidates, JAMB presented a guide for the institutions.
“For institutions with 2024 commencement year, Candidates with 2024 registration numbers and have been admitted but desire to attend your institution will need to apply for deletion.
“For prospective candidates with 2024 registration numbers but yet to be admitted, they will only need to change their institutions to make your institution their first choice. Your institution will simply recommend them on CAPS and JAMB approves.
“For candidates who have registered and will take the 2025 UTME, they just need to change their first choice to your institution when the programmes are available and thereafter, you are to recommend them on CAPS for the approval of JAMB.
“Your institutions can utilize the JAMB “Marketplace” to identify potential candidates and indicate your willingness to admit them. JAMB will send messages to the candidates notifying them of your offers and also bear the cost, provided the cost is not more than N50,000.00 (7,143 candidates). Any more than that would have to be funded by the institution,” JAMB advised.
