JAMB Gives Institutions 7 Days To Correct Matriculation Violations

Some tertiary institutions in the country have apologised to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for violating admission guidelines, particularly the failure to upload their matriculation lists.

The institutions have also pledged to rectify the infractions within seven days.

According to the JAMB Weekly Bulletin, this was disclosed at a meeting convened by the exam body on August 18, 2025.

The Board, according to the bulletin, expressed concern over what it termed an “absurd and unacceptable” trend by some institutions that conduct admissions through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) but fail to complete the official matriculation process.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, who presided over the meeting, described the institutions’ actions as a clear departure from established procedures.

“You conducted admissions on CAPS but did not matriculate any student. We feel that before we forward the report to the government, we should interact with you,” he said.

Oloyede referenced Section 23, subsection 7 of the admission guidelines, which mandates institutions to upload their matriculation lists for proper analysis.

The Registrar emphasised that only candidates listed on the National Matriculation List are recognized as having been legitimately admitted.

“Any candidate whose name is not on the National Matriculation List will be considered not to have been admitted by JAMB, and the admission is illegitimate. No such illegal admission will be condoned,” he warned.

JAMB also stressed the potential legal implications of such violations, including the possibility of lawsuits from affected students who may be disenfranchised by these lapses.

Following JAMB’s stern warnings and insistence on adherence to due process, the institutions admitted fault and agreed on immediate corrective steps.

At the end of the meeting, the institutions resolved, among other measures, that all concerned institutions should submit their letters of apology on CAPS within 24 hours of the resolution and upload their outstanding matriculation lists within seven days from 18 August 2025.

JAMB also mandated that affiliate institutions operate strictly under the supervision of their parent institutions, each of which will designate a representative to oversee their affiliates.

It called out Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, and Westpring University, Benin, for failing to honour the Board’s invitation.

While acknowledging the institutions’ apologies, Oloyede assured that JAMB would explore remedial actions to ensure that no innocent student suffers due to institutional negligence.

“We are looking at ways to remedy the situation so that no candidate unduly suffers for sins they did not commit,” he said.

JAMB reiterated its commitment to upholding integrity in the nation’s admission process and warned that future violations would attract stricter sanctions.
