Arsenal earned a hard-fought 1-0 win over Tottenham at the Spurs Stadium on Sunday to continue their unbeaten start to the season.
The Gunners were without Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice for the encounter, but they managed to grab the maximum points against their North London rivals.
Arteta started Jorginho and Gabriel Martinelli in midfield to cover the absence of the duo, and Leandro Trossard started on the left.
Arsenal goalkeeper, David Raya was on top of his game with two crucial saves to deny Dejan Kulusevski early in the game.
Vicario also denied Kai Havertz with a smart save late in the first half as both sides failed to break the deadlock going into the first half break.
Brazilian defender, Gabriel scored with a well-placed header from a Bukayo Saka’s corner to give the visitors the lead just after the hour mark.
The Gunners held on to grab the maximum points to earn a record three successive away league wins at Tottenham in the North London Derby for the first time since 1988.
Arsenal have now won 10 of their last 11 Premier League away games, keeping nine clean sheets in that run.
Mikel Arteta was full of praise for his players for their performance in the match despite missing two key players.
He said, “It’s unbelievable, I don’t know when it happened in our history. After the international break, we had a few blows. How the team reacted was magnificent. It showed a lot of maturity from the team.
“When they get into the final third, it’s very difficult because they have a structure. We were missing vital players and we had to react to that. I’m very pleased.
“We had to adjust and use different players and qualities. I was hoping they would do something with the ball and we did it. Sometimes better than others. They are a really good side.
“When we have to defend in deeper areas, we did it really well. There are things to improve but we have another victory here and it’s huge. I know how our supporters will feel about this, so enjoy it.”
Up next for the Gunners is a trip to Italy to face Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League on Thursday.
