‘It will Sell Like Crazy’ — Trump On $5m Gold Card For U.S Citizenship

President Donald Trump has defended his plan to replace the existing EB-5 immigrant investor visa programme with a new “gold card” that would offer a direct path to U.S. citizenship for foreign investors willing to pay $5m.

The initiative announced on Tuesday seeks to attract wealthy individuals to the U.S. and, in turn, generate funds for the country.

“We are going to be selling a gold card; we are going to be putting a price on that card of about $5m. It’s going to give you green card privileges, plus it’s going to be a route to American citizenship.”

Providing further information on the proposed policy, Trump said it would reposition the immigration system allegedly riddled with fraud.

“The American immigration system has not been properly run,” he told reporters before his first cabinet meeting at the White House on Wednesday.

“For example, when companies…want to hire the number one student in a school and the person comes from India, China, or Japan but has a problem earning a right to stay in the country, these companies can buy a Gold Card and they can use it as a matter of recruitment,” he said.

According to Trump, the gold card will allow companies to come in and invest in the country.

“We are going to get productive people in the country. I can tell you that the people who can pay $5m are going to create jobs, pay taxes and hire good people. I think it’s going to sell like crazy,” Trump declared.
