Israel’s security cabinet to convene Tuesday on Gaza ceasefire, hostage talks

Israel’s security cabinet will meet Tuesday evening in Jerusalem to deliberate on the Gaza crisis, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed.

While officials did not disclose the agenda, Israeli media reports suggest the discussions will center on renewed negotiations for a ceasefire and a deal to secure the release of hostages still held in Gaza.

Earlier this month, the cabinet approved a plan authorizing the military to assume control of Gaza City. However, Tuesday’s meeting is expected to prioritize diplomatic efforts over new military moves.

Last week, Netanyahu directed his team to pursue urgent talks on the release of captives, following Hamas’s announcement that it had accepted a ceasefire framework proposed by international mediators.

The deal reportedly involves a phased exchange, hostages for Palestinian prisoners, over an initial 60-day period.

The Hostages and Missing Families Forum, the leading advocacy group for the captives, has urged the government not to delay. It announced a nationwide day of action on Tuesday to press for immediate agreement.

“An overwhelming majority of Israelis want our loved ones brought home,” the group said in a statement.

“Any delay in securing their return contradicts the will of the people and the values of mutual responsibility and solidarity.”

The renewed push for negotiations comes amid growing domestic and international pressure on Israel to balance its military objectives with humanitarian and political imperatives in Gaza.
