Israeli Military Downs Missile Fired By Yemen’s Houthi Rebels
The Israeli military says it has intercepted a missile launched from Yemen, with the Iran-backed Houthi rebels claiming responsibility for the attack.
In a statement on Thursday via Telegram, Israel’s military confirmed that its air force shot down the missile, which the Houthis said was aimed at Ben Gurion International Airport.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree described the weapon as a “Palestine 2 hypersonic ballistic missile” and said it was part of the group’s ongoing campaign against Israel in support of the Palestinians.
Since Hamas’s October 2023 assault on Israel triggered the ongoing Gaza war, the Yemeni rebels have repeatedly targeted Israel with missiles and drones.
They temporarily halted attacks during a two-month Gaza ceasefire that ended in March, but resumed strikes after Israel renewed major operations.
In response, Israel has conducted multiple retaliatory strikes on Houthi-controlled territory, including attacks on ports and the airport in the rebel-held capital, Sanaa.
