Inferno Kills 41-Year Old Man, Razes Houses In Kwara

In a statement released by Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, Head of Media and Publicity for the Kwara State Fire Service, the deceased was trapped by the thick smoke and passed away during the incident.
The statement revealed firefighters responded swiftly to the distress call at 02:07 hours on Monday, December 9, 2024 when the raging fire engulfed several rooms.
His statement reads, “The fire service team managed to save 30 rooms out of a total of 35, with five rooms completely destroyed.
“The fire was reported at a dwelling of about 35 rooms,” the statement explained.
“Upon arrival, the fire had already spread to some rooms. The firefighters worked tirelessly to contain and extinguish the blaze, preventing it from spreading further. Unfortunately, five rooms were affected, while 30 rooms were successfully saved.”
The fire claimed the life of AbdulFatai, who was unable to escape due to the heavy smoke.
“He was found unconscious and later confirmed dead,” the statement added.
His body was handed over to his family after the firefighting operation.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire was caused by spontaneous ignition in a room containing combustible materials, including petrol, batteries, and a tire inflator engine.
