INEC warns against underage, multiple registration in Bauchi

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned residents of Bauchi State against engaging in underage or multiple voter registration, collecting PVCs by proxy, or interfering with its officials while on duty.

INEC warned that such offences attract stiff penalties under the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended).

The warning was issued by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Bauchi, Umar Ibrahim, during a press briefing on Friday on the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

“The Commission will not tolerate multiple registration, underage registration, or proxy collection of PVCs. These are serious electoral offences, and anyone found guilty will face the full weight of the law,” Ibrahim said.

He said the Continuous Voter Registration exercise is part of the build-up to the 2027 general elections and is aimed at making sure that only qualified voters are captured in the final register.

He stated that the Preliminary Register of Voters would be made public every three months to give room for corrections, objections, and claims.

The REC urged all eligible voters to use the opportunity of the exercise to register, update their personal information, transfer their registration, or replace missing or damaged PVCs.

“I call on all eligible Nigerians in Bauchi State to make use of this opportunity to register, update your details, and collect your PVCs,” he appealed.
