Imo Gov’t Announces Completion of Nkume-Umuowa 6.9km Road

The Imo State Government has confirmed the completion of the long-awaited 6.9-kilometre Nkume-Umuowa Road in the Orlu Local Government Area.

According to information shared via its Facebook page, the state government said the road now links several communities, including Nkume, Owerre Umuodioka, Umuowa, Owerre-Ebeiri, Umuna, and Amaifeke, after years of being in poor condition.

The government revealed that the road had been a major challenge for residents, limiting transportation, trade, and access to schools and health centres.

The reconstruction, according to the release, was part of Governor Hope Uzodimma’s broader rural development plan under the 3R agenda.

The state noted that a local engineering firm handled the project, which involved full grading, installation of drainage systems and culverts, and complete asphalting of the road.

The road, the government added, was built with “safety and durability as key considerations.”

The government expressed optimism that the completed road would trigger more growth in the area.

“This is more than a road project—it’s a link to new opportunities,” the statement added.

Officials assured that more infrastructure projects would follow in other parts of the state.
