I’m Not Giving Up On Winning 100th ATP Title—Djokovic
Tennis legend Novak Djokovic has revealed that he is not giving up on his quest to win a historic 100th ATP title despite falling short once again in the Miami Open.
The 37-year-old suffered a heartbreaking defeat to Jakub Mensik in the final two weeks ago.
He was aiming to join the likes of Jimmy Connors (109) and Roger Federer (103) as the only three men in the professional era to claim 100 or more ATP trophies.
The Serbian star has battled with injuries and poor form in recent months; he has failed to win any ATP title since 2023.
In 2024, he was only able to win the Olympic gold medal and endured a drought in the regular tournaments.
However, Djokovic said he is taking motivation from the final defeat to Mensik to continue his chase for the historic 100th ATP title.
He said, “There’s no doubt it has become more difficult throughout my career, but the performances in Miami, when I’m playing that way, give me more inspiration to keep going.
“It just feels great on the court when you’re striking the ball well and winning matches. Obviously, when you start losing early, you have more questions and inner voices, which are bringing doubts about whether you should keep going.
“I’m glad in Miami, I found that joy on the court and performance levels, so let’s see if I can carry that into clay. It’s a different surface, and I’ve not had much time to get used to this tournament, so my expectations aren’t that high.”
Djokovic also provided an update on his coach, Andy Murray’s absence at the Monte Carlo tournament.
He said, “It was never part of the agreement to work with Andy this week.
“I was thinking about who I wanted, anyone apart from my fitness coach and physio, and my brother Marko was able to join me, so that helps me on a different level emotionally.”
Djokovic will face Alejandro Tabilo in his opening match of the Monte Carlo Masters on Tuesday.
The Monte Carlo Masters is the first big clay-court tournament of the year. The tournament is one of the nine ATP Masters 1000 tournaments on the ATP Tour.
