Ijesa Sports Club suspends member over poisoning allegation
Ijesa Sports Club, Ilesa, Osun State, has announced the immediate suspension of one of its members, Chief Gbenga Ajibade, following his alleged involvement in a poisoning incident currently under police investigation.
The suspension was made public through an official statement issued by the Club’s Director of Social and Publicity, Kenneth Opebiyi, on Wednesday, August 7, 2025.
The suspension followed disturbing allegations that Chief Ajibade attempted to murder a young man over a dispute involving stolen maize.
“In light of the ongoing investigation by law enforcement agencies, the Executive Committee has resolved to suspend Chief Ajibade until the case is fully resolved. This decision was reached during an emergency meeting held on the 6th of August, 2025,” the statement read.
The committee expressed deep concern over disturbing images and videos circulating on social media platforms, particularly Facebook, which allegedly show details surrounding the incident.
“These scenes are not only alarming but damaging to the reputation of our esteemed Club,” the Club said.
Chief Ajibade’s alleged actions, according to the Club, are not in alignment with the core values and ethical standards upheld by the organisation.
“He will face disciplinary actions from the Club after the investigation is concluded,” the statement added.
Ijesa Sports Club reiterated its commitment to maintaining integrity and justice within its membership and the wider society.
“We cannot allow any member’s actions to bring disrepute to our organisation, which has been built on a foundation of respect and community values over the years,” the Club noted in the statement.
The Club stressed that it neither condones nor supports any behaviour that endangers human life or dignity.
“It is our firm position that no individual is above the law. We stand in solidarity with the values of justice and accountability,” the Club declared through the statement.
