IGP Orders Retirement Of AIGs, Others Indicted For Age Falsification
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the immediate retirement of all officers found to have falsified their ages and/or years of enlistment to circumvent service regulations and extend their tenure.
The officers include Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) Benneth Igweh, Idowu Owohunwa, DCP Simon Lough, CP Aina Emmanuel, CP Salama Abdul, and Adepoju Olugbenga.
The development, contained in a wireless message dated February 10, directed all zonal commands, departments, and others to refer to the decision reached by the Police Service Commission (PSC) on January 31.
The memo with reference number CH:8400/FS/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.2/294 reads: “Re: Police Service Commission decision at its 1st Extraordinary Meeting of the 6th Management Board on the regularization of date of first appointment of Cadet ASPs/Inspectors force entrants X INGENPOL firmly directs you proceed with full implementation of POLSCOM directives X unambiguously conveyed in MYLET No. CH:8400/FS/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.2/292, dated 01/02/2025 X This sig. supersedes MYSIG No. CH:8400/FS/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.2/293 DTO: 051604/02/2025 X for your strict compliance X acknowledge receipt X please X.”
The PSC, during its 1st Extraordinary Meeting of the 6th Management Board on the regularisation of the date of first appointment of Cadet, approved the immediate retirement of officers who have spent 35 years in service and those above 60 years of age.
The police said that the recent memo, demanding the retirement of the affected, supersedes the directives conveyed in the wireless message dated February 1 and supersedes the directives contained in the February 5 internal memo of the police.
On February 1, the IGP, following PSC’s directives, issued a wireless message signed on his behalf by the Deputy Force Secretary, CP Bode Akinbamilowo, asking the affected officers to go into immediate retirement.
However, another memo by the IGP on February 5 demanded that immediate retirement be suspended to enable the officers to appear before the police disciplinary committee on February 10 and 13 in their “daily dress code.”
